What’s cooking Chez June 02.07.13: Poke salad

Everything was pretty much just clean, and cut. The only thing I spent some time on was the dressing: soy sauce + green onion + ginger + sesame seeds + sesame oil + spritz of lemon

Living on a grad student’s budget can limit your spending, but I honestly think that you can have great food for cheap. This came out to be $18 and gave me lunch and dinner ($9/meal). I know you can get a dish like this out at a restaurant for way more…$25+ (don’t forget tax and tip!). So, why not save some money and just eat at home instead? :)

My palate is usually unsatisfied when I go out in Boston, but Oishii down in the South End always makes me happy, especially when I’m craving fun sushi dishes. My wallet, on the other hand, does not come out so happy. You can spend $75 per person here easily.

Sorry it’s been so long. I almost forgot I had a Tumblr. I wanted to share a picture of the Golden Coast with everyone. This was taken a few days before I had to go back to school in Boston. I went on a road trip with a couple friends and we just went and drove down to Big Sur. Ah, Cali, I miss you and can’t wait to come home for the winter break! <3

I just discovered this electronic English band called I Monster. Surprisingly, they formed in 1997. They started a blog a while back that’s hardly updated, but it’s got a download link to their first album. My favourite song in it has to be this one. Enjoy! (And if you enjoy this one, get Heaven from their sophomore album, Neveroddoreven.)

Starfucker (yes, that’s the band’s name) released this song in 2008, but it still gives me shivers in 2011. Named after Queen Isabella I of Castile who helped lay down the foundations for Spain’s unification. A beautiful song for such a strong figure.

This is Elvis, the unofficial mascot of 1369 Coffeehouse in Cambridge, MA. I come here all the time for coffee and to study because of the huge turnover rate of seats/desks, as well as the care they put into their espresso. Finally, a place to get a decent cup of coffee.

Joy Zipper did a cover of The Cure’s Just Like Heaven in 2008 for their record label. I prefer this over Katie Melua’s version which is just too depressing for such a happy song. This song is meant to be danced to on your bed…not moping around. As soon as midterms are over, I plan on doing much dancing. Enjoy!
